BMW DKG (DCT) — Supported Variants
Support for BMW dual-clutch transmissions (DKG) is under development. These transmissions require a complex communication environment involving engine torque coordination and driver interface modules, which IOcan recreates the same way it does for the 8HP — the factory TCU stays in place and IOcan supplies the vehicle signals it expects, using the DKG transmission-emulation CAN presets.
Documented units
Wiring documentation currently covers:
- GS7D36SG — 7-speed DCT, F-series
- GS7D36BG — 7-speed DCT, F-series
- E-series DKG
See Wiring for the connector pinouts. The F-series units have a dedicated support page: Fxx DCT support.
GS7 gear ratios
The GS7 was built in a short-ratio and a long-ratio variant. Reverse is the same in both; the forward gears differ:
| Gear | Short | Long |
|---|---|---|
| R | 4.350 | 4.350 |
| 1 | 4.780 | 4.806 |
| 2 | 2.933 | 2.593 |
| 3 | 2.153 | 1.707 |
| 4 | 1.678 | 1.277 |
| 5 | 1.390 | 1.000 |
| 6 | 1.203 | 0.844 |
| 7 | 1.000 | 0.671 |
Short-ratio transmissions
- E92 M3 (V8)
- 135i (R6)
- 335i (R6)
- Z4 (R6, E-series)
Long-ratio transmissions
- F10 M5 (V8)
- F80 M3 (R6)
- F82 M4 (R6)
Planned capabilities
- standalone transmission operation
- CAN-based driver input integration
- integration with standalone ECUs
- diagnostic access
Documentation will be added as development progresses.
Shifter compatibility
The BMW F-series gear selector (GWS) is shared between 8HP and DCT platforms. A DCT F-series shifter can be used with a DCT transmission directly; mixed combinations (an 8HP shifter with a DCT transmission, or vice versa) are possible with protocol translation through IOcan. See the GWS pinout and connection variants.
Compatibility notes
Transmission compatibility depends on hardware version, TCU firmware version, the vehicle platform the transmission originated from, and the available CAN signals. Always verify compatibility before beginning a project.
